Bedroom Wall Lighting Ideas That Do Not Need an Electrician
Share
The fastest way to make a bedroom feel expensive is to stop using the big light. Hotels figured this out decades ago: low, warm light either side of the bed, nothing overhead. Here is how to get the same effect at home, including options that need no wiring at all.
Wall lights beat bedside lamps
Bedside lamps eat table space and the cords always show. A wall light at shoulder height when sitting up in bed gives better reading light and clears the bedside table for the things you actually want there. Fit them in pairs if you share the bed; symmetry does half the styling work. Our ceramic wall light with a brass dimmer knob was made for exactly this: twist down to a low glow for the last chapter, no fumbling for a switch cord in the dark.
Pick a shade material for the mood you want
Ceramic shades give a soft, even, gallery-calm light. Textured or coloured glass adds character: a brass and glass wall lamp in the Japandi style reads quiet and warm, while a stained glass globe turns the corner of a bedroom into the best-lit spot in the house.
The renter-friendly version
No landlord permission needed: rechargeable fittings. A magnetic LED light bar mounts with adhesive, lifts off to recharge over USB, and gives you proper bedside light for about the price of a takeaway.
Get the bulb right
Warm white, 2700K, always dimmed low in the last hour before sleep. Cool white light in a bedroom is the fastest way to make a calm room feel like an office.
